The Mind Pop Opera

The Mind Pop Opera

A currentely work in phase of development to be finally extructured on an artistic residency at The Watermill Center in New York. Our point of departure is Egill’s take on music within his visual art works in particular his visual / music book “She was a Fighter” in combination with existing materials from preview performances from The Mind project. We are putting together something we have been named as a pop opera. It departs from performance into the field of visual arts, music and theater. What connects these different aspects is the multiplicity and the playfulness in exploring what music is and can be. Everything can be music. We are interested in investigating “score” in a wide sense. But we don’t want it to be only minimal or only pop or only classical for example. We want to allow ourselves to touch different styles and approaches in the project. Marcia comes from theater and brings a deeper understanding of directing, choreography and overall conduction of the piece. Key phrases for this project are “decomposing”, replacing concepts that are professionally established in the performance world, the location for pop music, opera or a musical into arts. We build on the heritage but it has to move further. Within this piece we try to reorder the elements of music, text, performance, and lighting, exploring the connection between content and appearance in to the dramaturgy.
